Rockcrawling, Mud Running, and Four Wheeling from Nebraska

October 23, 2004

Heather, Hannah (my daughter), and I joined Ron, Dave, and Reagan (Dave's daughter) for one last trip to Tuttle Creek this year before the snow flies. The weather over the weekend was great, with only the nights being a little chilly. Ron, Dave and I all made our attempts at Rock Garden. I was determined to get through and did fairly well until the last ledge where I got a little high centered (need bigger tires-more lift....) Ron did good with the exception of bending his tie-rod into a "V". He still managed to drive it to the end, with the tires pointing in at each other. Dave had about the cleanest run, only breaking a u-joint on the last ledge. He managed to three wheel out of the garden (too bad we all had to learn what happens when the axle stubs bind...) I didn't get out the repair work either this weekend. Sunday morning, I was going to "attack" a fairly steep ledge. The little stock S-15 rear axle, that had held its own for the last few years, finally decided to spit out an axle shaft. Well it was a great year, and a good time to take a break for awhile.
